The 53 year old has been leading the SDP in walkabouts in the SMC, after former MP David Ong resigned over an alleged extra-marital affair last week.
If elected, Dr Chee says he’s looking to run the town council in Bukit Batok efficiently and productively.
To do so, he said that the SDP will adopt a whole new town council management scheme in Singapore, where qualified and experienced professionals will run the town council instead of a managing agent.
Residents will be involved in the planning and running of the community through frequent town hall meetings.
Bukit Batok isn’t new territory for the SDP.
The party contested there back in 1988 and 1991 – before the SMC was absorbed into a GRC.
The PAP has yet to announce a candidate to stand in the by-election, though DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam has sought to assure residents that a hardworking and sincere candidate will be fielded.
