Aljunied GRC stalwart Faisal Manap has been appointed as the new Chair for Aljunied-Hougang Town Council.

He replaces Pritam Singh, who served as AHTC Chair for the past 3 years.

Mr Singh was elected as the WP’s secretary-general in April this year, as part of the party’s leadership renewal process.

Commenting on the move in a Facebook post, the WP said:

“We will continue to move forward.”

Mr Singh, current vice-Chair Sylvia Lim, and former WP secretary-general Low Thia Kiang are being sued by AHTC over accusations of breach of fiduciary duty.

Among the allegations is the appointment of town council managing agent FMSS to manage the town council operations, resulting in improper payments which enabled FMSS officers to enrich themselves.

AHTC is claiming S$622,593.78 in liquidated claims from multiple parties, as well as S$4,167,501.71 in unliquidated claims, as well as any additional sums involved.

Mr Singh, Ms Lim and Mr Low have denied the allegations.

The WP trio aside, others who are implicated in the lawsuit include:

-Chua Zhi Hon – a former member of the WP Youth Wing executive committee
-Kenneth Foo – deputy organising secretary of the WP and WP candidate in Nee Soon GRC in GE2015
-How Weng Fan – owner of AHTC’s former managing agent firm FM Solutions and Services (FMSS)
-FMSS as a corporate entity
