28 people (updated from 25 reported earlier this morning), including 2 staff, were injured after a train an SMRT train hit a stationary one at the Joo Koon MRT station platform around 8am this morning.
The crash took place during peak hour traffic when trains are usually packed.
Said one of the affected commuters, Mei Anne:
“So i’m on the train that hit another one in front! And we fell on our backs coz of the fall! And it hurts.. Damn #SMRT! Seriously!”
The injured persons sustained light to moderate injuries and were sent to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and National University Hospital for treatment.
The incident, reportedly due to a malfunction of the new signalling system, resulted in delays on the East-West Line.
A platform at Joo Koon MRT station was cordoned off following the incident.

Another train service disruption also took place this morning along the Circle Line.
SMRT first reported the incident at about 6.30am, saying a signalling fault between Farrer Road and Buona Vista would require commuters to add another 20 minutes of travel time to their journey between Buona Vista and HarbourFront stations.
Some commuters, such as Priscillaa Shinbone, begged to differ – she said she had been stuck in a train between Marymount and Caldecott stations for an hour.
