Victor Wong Chee Meng, who was removed from his position as General Manager of Ang Mo Kio Town Council after corruption charges were brought against him, will stand trial after entering a not guilty plea.
The 58-year-old has been charged with 55 counts of corruption and received kickbacks amounting to about S$107,000 from 2 firms, 19-ANC Enterprise and 19-NS2 Enterprise.
62-year-old Chia Sin Lan, who is the director of both companies, faces the same number of charges.
Wong was an employee of CPG Facilities Management, the managing agent of the town council which serves the Ang Mo Kio public housing estate when he was appointed as AMKTC general manager.
Amongst the charges – Wong is alleged to have received bribes from Chia totalling more than S$30,000, which were sent to Wong’s mistress Xu Hongmei in the form of overseas remittances.
He is also alleged to have accepted bribes from Chia in the form of discounts worth S$13,500 to buy a car.
If convicted, Wong faces a maximum jail term of 7 years, and/or a fine of up to S$100,000 per charge.
