Downtown Line Disruption: Commuters Complain of Hour-Long Delays, Slam SBS Transit for “Misleading” Announcement

A signalling fault caused delays on the Downtown Line this morning.

At 6.51am, SBS Transit tweeted that train service towards Expo and Bukit Panjang stations was delayed due to a signalling fault.

However, commuters complained that they experienced delays of about 15 minutes at each station, instead of a total travel time delay of 15 minutes.

As a result, many said they reached their destinations an hour later than usual.

Commuters also expressed dismay that such faults could occur on the Downtown Line – a new rail development which was first opened for service in 2013, with Downtown Line 2 opened in 2015 and Downtown Line 3 opened in October last year.

There’s concern that SBS Transit could go the way of SMRT, which holds the record for the worst breakdowns in Singapore’s rail history.
