Slovakian national Katarina Chlebikova, a PhD student at the Duke-NUS Medical School, was found dead this morning at a laboratory in Biopolis.
The 26-year-old is believed to have killed herself by inhaling nitrogen found in the laboratory.
Chlebikova was reportedly an intern at the Claridge-Chang Lab, which is affiliated with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research’s (A*STAR) Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology.
Police and SCDF responded to the incident at 10.45am.
The incident has been classified as a case of unnatural death and investigations are ongoing.
Chlebikova graduated with a degree in biological natural sciences from the University of Cambridge.
She worked at the lab in 2013 before pursuing a master’s degree at Edinburgh University, and had returned to Duke-NUS to pursue her doctorate.
