Edz was given the sack for posting offensive comments online, which targeted Singaporeans and Islam. The comments went viral last week and angered many Singaporeans.
TTSH said that during its investigations, it found three earlier online posts by Bello that were “highly irresponsible and offensive to Singapore and religion”.
It added that the hospital takes “a very serious view and have zero tolerance on conduct that is offensive and detrimental to multi-cultural harmony in Singapore.”
On the sacking, Mr Gan Kim Yong said:
“I have been informed that TTSH has dismissed Mr Ello Ed Mundsel Bello with immediate effect. Mr Bello’s behaviour is not acceptable and the Ministry supports TTSH in this decision.
As a multi-racial society, we must not take social harmony for granted. It is important for us to respect one another, whether at work or in the community. We in the healthcare sector must continually earn the trust of patients, their family members and fellow workers.
Mr Bello is not representative of our healthcare workers, both local and foreign, who work together every day to ensure that the needs of our patients are well looked after.
I am confident that Singaporeans will continue to appreciate and support the good work of our healthcare workers and our hospitals.”
