He had a couple of drinks, and when his son got guai lan over his supposed “China mistress”, this 51-year-old businessman snapped.

He punched his 10-year-old son’s face repeatedly and with such force that he broke his son’s right eye socket.

The businessman cannot be named due to a court gag order, so we’ll just call him Violent Dad.

Today, he was jailed for 1 year after pleading guilty to causing grievous hurt to his son.

The incident took place at the family’s Yio Chu Kang house on 28 May 2015.

At around 10pm, Violent Dad scolded his son over his poor grades in school.

He then downed a some drinks and went to the boy’s room, where he had a discussion with his wife about their son.

The boy overheard them and said : “You like that woman more than us. Why do you care for us so much?”

At the time, Violent Dad was in the midst of divorce proceedings with his wife and they slept in separate rooms.

Violent Dad exclaimed, “What (did) you say?” to which his son repeated his remark.

That infuriated Violent Dad, who then pounced on his son, kicking and punching his face and body.

His wife tried to shield the boy, but Violent Dad pushed away.

She fell backwards, hitting her back against a vase and a safe.

Violent Dad then continued to punch his son’s face when he heard the boy mutter a profane term.

The family maid called the police and officers arrested Violent Dad.

The boy was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where he was found to be suffering from injuries that included a fractured eye socket and a bruised forehead.

It’s not clear if there really was a “China mistress”.
