Foreigner Complains about being Charged S$20 for Nasi Padang at Ion Orchard

This plate of nasi padang cost S$20? (Ed’s note: that’s about 8 cans of Tiger beer hor…)

Malaysia native Raymond Yeoh was possibly just as shocked as all of us here to find out that the plate of mixed rice cost so much.

To put this in perspective, the average Malaysian in 2017 earned RM$5228 (about S$1700) a month, according to Malaysia’s Statistics Department.

Said Yeoh:

“I just moved to Singapore 3 weeks ago and I had this Mix Rice in Padang Padang @ ION Orchard. Guess how much is this? I believe this is not the usual price even for tourist…

1. Anchovies and peanuts (left)
2. Fried fish (bottom)
3. Mutton cubes (right)
4. Fried small fish (top)”

This isn’t the first time someone has complained about the price of food sold at Padang Padang.

Apparently, despite the bad rep it’s getting, this nasi padang stall isn’t going to bring down its prices any time soon.
