Kong Hee has started serving his 3.5 year jail term.

The 52-year-old rogue City Harvest Church pastor surrendered himself to the State Courts earlier this morning to be sent to prison.

Also starting their jail terms today are the other members of the City Harvest Gang of Frauds – Serina Wee, Sharon Tan, John Lam and Tan Ye Peng.

One of the fraudsters who hasn’t started his jail term is Chew Eng Han, who has been granted a deferment.

The prosecution has brought a case to the Court of Appeal to clarify the law under which the Gang were prosecuted, and Chew has been given the deferment as he will be conducting his own defence.

The Gang was convicted in 2015 after a 140-day trial.

Following an appeal, they had their jail terms slashed significantly:

Kong Hee – 8 years to 3.5 years
Serina Wee – 5 years to 2.5 years
Tan Ye Peng – 5.5 years to 3 years and 2 months
Chew Eng Han – 6 years to 3 years and 4 months
John Lam – 3 years to 1.5 years
Sharon Tan – 21 months to 7 months

The prosecution is now seeking to clarify the law they were convicted under, in an attempt to up their sentences.
