Lee Wei Ling has leaked email correspondences showing how Lee Suet Fern, the wife of her brother Lee Hsien Yang, helped her obtain her inheritance.
According to the emails, she did this by playing peacemaker and brokering a deal with Dr Lee’s father, Lee Kuan Yew, on her behalf because the father-daughter relationship was strained (to the point where there was uncertainty if Dr Lee would attend LKY’s birthday celebration).
Dr Lee released the emails in response to PM Lee Hsien Loong’s 4000-word statutory declaration, accusing him of twisting the truth.
PM Lee had said that Lee Suet Fern was involved in preparing LKY’s final will, and that:
“her husband, LHY, was a beneficiary under the Last Will and stood to gain by the removal of LWL’s extra share in the Estate under the Last Will. It would appear that LHY felt very strongly about LWL not receiving an extra share, which explains why, in April 2015, he told me that there “would have been big trouble” if Mr Lee had not changed the will back to equal shares between the three children.”
However from the emails, it appears that Lee Suet Fern was trying to procure a larger share of the inheritance for Dr Lee.
