The mother of the 4-year-old victim of a fatal traffic accident at Bukit Batok yesterday evening has revealed the painful process in which she got to know about her daughter’s passing.

She had been steaming egg for her daughter because her daughter had told her that she wanted to eat eggs that day.

“Mothers have ‘sixth sense’. When I was cooking I felt that something was wrong. When I got the call from the hospital, I thought my daughter was hurt. It was only when I went to the hospital with my husband that I found out she was gone. I thought it was a dream.”

The girl, Eleanor Tan, was walking to Bukit Batok MRT station with her maid when the two were hit by a black car while crossing the road.

The girl’s mother, 24-year-old housewife Jacelyn Wong, said she sensed something wasn’t right when they weren’t back by 8pm.

“I thought they were stuck in a MRT breakdown and was prepared to go and look for them. Just as I was leaving the house, I received a call from the hospital”.

The accident took place at around 6.40pm yesterday.

Eyewitnesses say the maid and the girl struck the car’s front windshield then were thrown in the air before landing on the car’s rear windshield.

The impact was so great it shattered the glass of the car’s rear windshield, and that has raised suspicions that the driver was speeding at the time of the accident.

The maid was conscious following the crash but the girl lay on the road motionless.

A doctor who was passing by administered CPR to the girl, and she was later sent to hospital by paramedics.

Unfortunately, she died from her injuries.

The incident took place at Bukit Batok Central, in the direction of Bukit Batok West Avenue 2, near Block 204 Bukit Batok St 21.

It’s believed that the maid and the girl could have been jaywalking when the accident took place instead of using a nearby overhead bridge.

Police have arrested the driver of the black car – a 53-year-old man.

Ms Wong has urged eyewitnesses to come forward if they have any information to aid police in their investigation into the crash.
