Train delays of up to 30 minutes travelling time were experienced on the East-West Line this morning – the first day of the Primary School Leaving Examination.

Naturally, students and parents were worried and pretty angry that this happened today of all days.

SMRT first sent a tweet at 5.53am informing commuters that there would be an additional 30-minute travelling time between Tanah Merah and Pasir Ris stations due to a track point fault.

At about 6.30am, this delay in travelling time was cut down to 20 minutes.

The Ministry of Education has announced that students affected by the train delay do not need to submit an excuse letter like the “Train MC slips” which SMRT has been doling out.

The MOE said that students must arrive at the exam centre before the end of the paper to sit for the exam, and they will be given a full paper duration.
