31-year-old Lee Kwan Chen has been suspended for 6 weeks and ordered to undergo lessons in ethical behaviour and communications after comments online which appear to support the raping of women.
The punishment was meted out by the Medical Board of Australia, after Lee’s posts on local forum Hardwarezone.
Lee, who is presently practising medicine in Australia, has a record of making comments advocating sexual violence against women.
In comment back in 2016, Lee commented online that “some women deserve to be raped, and that supercilious little **** fits the bill in every way”.
In 2017, he posted a comment saying “I’m surprised the didn’t give him a medal instead”, referring to an Egyptian lawyer who was jailed for saying that women who wear ripped jeans should be raped as punishment.
In his defence, Lee said that he has not allowed his views, which have been perceived as inflammatory and misogynistic, to affect his care of patients.
He added that he was young, opinionated and inexperienced.
