SPH Intern Allegedly Attempted Suicide After Her Affair with a Straits Times Editor Was Exposed

A Singapore Press Holdings intern allegedly tried to kill herself after her boyfriend discovered her affair with a Straits Times news editor and confronted her.

Local online news agency, The Online Citizen, reports that the editor involved is 42-year-old Marc Lim, a former sports editor and assistant news editor who was promoted to new editor in September 2016.

Lim has reportedly been demoted following SPH’s internal investigation into the matter.

SPH has released a statement saying that a “member” of its staff from the Straits Times newsroom was hospitalised last week and is now recovering at home.

SPH added that an internal inquiry has investigated the matter and found that 2 editors had breached SPH’s code of conduct for their connection to the incident of improper relations with a subordinate member of the staff.

Said SPH:

“One editor will be removed from his post, demoted and redeployed; the other will be given a written warning, have his salary docked, and redeployed.”

SPH has not publicly disclosed the identities of the staff involved in the incident.
