Strawberry Gen Watch Out! Former Army Colonel Appointed Youth Council Chief

The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth has appointed former army colonel David Chua to head the National Youth Council.

The father of four will take over from 28 July, and will be the NYC’s first-ever CEO.

Chua has also been appointed chairman of Orchard Road youth hangout *Scape.

Since January this year, the NYC was made an autonomous agency, reporting to the MCCY.

The MCCY says the NYC will be hoping to ensure “greater coherence and coordination” in youth developmental efforts under Chua’s leadership.

Chua joined the SAF in 1993.

He held several key command appointments, including commanding officer of the School of Armour and the 41st Battalion Singapore Armoured Regiment.

He was awarded the Fulbright scholarship and SAF Postgraduate Award to pursue a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2011.

The father of four was also chairman of the 2013 National Day Parade Show Committee.

Last year, he received the Public Administration Medal (Bronze)(Military).
