Tampines residents have taken their town council to task due to the locking of a community garden in the area.

They claim that more than one of these community gardens are locked, and are angry at being denied access.

Commenting on one of the gardens, Mao Velous said:

“What’s the purpose of this community garden when it’s under lock and key? Is it only for a exclusive community to visit? No info on opening hours too.”

That community garden was opened by former minister Mah Bow Tan back in 2004.

Tampines Town Council’s reply seemed to suggest that it wasn’t sure which of the gardens was locked.

To which another resident, Yong Nam, said:

“Most community gardens are locked and don’t tell me TTC don’t know?”

So, have the community gardens in Tampines become “forgotten exclusive gardens”?
