Taxi Surge Pricing Booking Service Started Today by Breaking Down

JustGrab, the new taxi booking service which uses dynamic pricing, got off to a rocky start today after the app malfunctioned.

It was only at noon that the technical team managed to get the app up and working.

The new booking service allows customers to book taxis from all taxi companies except ComfortDelGro, which has 60 percent of the taxi market share.

Some 10,600 taxis from HDT Singapore Taxi, Premier, Prime, SMRT, and Trans-Cab have joined the GrabCar fleet.

JustGrab’s fares are based on the dynamic pricing system, which will “surge” in periods of high demand, which is similar to the GrabCar private-hire service.

Commuters pay a base fare of S$2.50 and a per kilometre rate of 50 cents, which is cheaper than metered taxi fares.

But during periods of high demand, commuters will be made to pay more, though there is a cap of S$100 per trip.
