A tree that fell in Tampines this evening struck a street sign and smashed a car.

The incident took place at the traffic junction at Tampines Avenue 9 and Tampines Street 43 at about 6.40pm.

At least one lane of traffic was blocked off as National Parks officers cleared the fallen tree.

There were no injuries reported.

The tree is believed to have been situated inside a nearby church.

At least 5 cases of toppled trees and falling branches were reported to have caused traffic jams and damaging vehicles last month.

NParks says 361 incidents of fallen trees were reported this year – about half the 800 cases reported last year.
