43-year-old Uber driver Spencer Tay Boon Wan has been slapped with a S$1200 fine for use of criminal force, after he manhandled a Tower Transit bus driver.
The incident took place after the bus driver, Modavan Mohideen, tried to take a picture of his car, which was parked in a manner that obstructed Mr Mohideen’s bus from moving forward.
The incident took place on 26 Oct last year.
At about 3.10pm that day, Mohideen was driving bus service 284 at a roundabout beside Block 307 Clementi Ave 4.
Tay’s Uber car was parked there together with a trailer and as a result Mohideen found it difficult to move his bus forward.
He then got down from the bus and asked the drivers to move their vehicles, and took photos of both vehicles.
When Tay saw him snapping photos, he got out of his car and stood in front of Mohideen.
Tay then tapped him twice on the shoulder and grabbed his left collar.
Fortunately for Mohideen, a passenger on the bus saw the confrontation and called the police, then stepped forward to break up the scuffle.
Tay drove off before police arrived.
For using criminal force, Tay could have been jailed for up to three months and/or fined up to S$1,500.
