A 49-year-old Choa Chu Kang resident required 15 stitches for a deep gash on her leg after a drain cover she stepped on suddenly shattered.
Mdm Lee was walking to the bus stop near Block 402 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 last Thursday (3 Jan) when the incident happened.
It was around 6am in the morning and the secretary was on her way to work.
Mdm Lee said that she stepped on the cement drain cover and it broke apart.
As a result, she fell and her left leg plunged into the drain.
“I felt a sharp pain in my leg, and also injured my right hand when I fell. It was early in the morning. I picked myself up slowly and limped to the HDB flat void deck to sit down.”
Mdm Lee suffered a deep 10-cm long gash on her left leg.
Crying from the pain, she notified her family, who rushed downstairs to tend to her and call for an ambulance.
Doctors spent over 2 hours cleaning the wound and stitching it up.
Mdm Lee hopes that the authorities look into the matter so that residents are safe.
“Many people walk around here. It would be worse if this happened to a kid.”
Chua Chu Kang Town Council says it has already changed the broken drain cover and checked that the others in the vicinity are in good condition.
The town council is investigating the matter.
