Can City Harvest Babe Serina Wee Escape Prison and Other Implications of the Gang of Frauds’ Convictions

Sure, she fudged the numbers and cooked the books.

But what’s worse, Serina Wee was an accomplice in putting our friends in America through the ordeal of listening to Sun Ho’s music.

Damn it, she even played backup singer to the flopping Sun!

(1) Jail Time for Ms Wee?

Convicted of 6 counts of criminal breach of trust and 4 counts of falsifying accounts, questions abound as to whether Serena can escape with  a hefty fine – because we’d very much prefer to see Serena in a nice dress than prison togs.

Unfortunately, that looks bleak.

The punishment for criminal breach of trust is a life sentence or up to 20 years in prison, AND a fine.

As for falsifying accounts, the punishment is a maximum of 10 years in jail, a fine, OR both.

Now out on bail, we wouldn’t count on Serena escaping jail.

The only one who could ever reach me... Was the wife of a preacher man!
(2) What about the City Harvest Leadership?

There’s always CHC 2.0, led by errant pastor Kong Hee’s wife –  yes, Sun Ho, the woman at the heart of this City Harvest Gang of Frauds scandal. She’s been ordained as a pastor, and said that a new management team has been overseeing church operations since 2012.

As Ms Sun said in a Facebook post yesterday to the City Harvest flock:

“The judge has rendered his decision and, naturally, we are disappointed by the outcome. Nonetheless, I know that Pastor Kong and the rest are studying the judgment intently and will take legal advice from their respective lawyers in the days to come.

As was the case throughout these past three years of court trial, and the earlier two years of investigation, we have placed our faith in God and trust that whatever the outcome, He will use it for our good (Romans 8:28). This protracted season has been extremely difficult, not just for the six, but also for all their families and friends, as well as for our congregation.

In spite of these challenges, City Harvest Church has an unshakeable calling from God. Recently, Pastor Kong has exhorted us to focus on our core values, and serve the purpose of God with greater effectiveness and sustainability. Since 2012, we have had a new management and a new Church Board running the operations of the church. Therefore, let’s stay the course with CHC 2.0. God is making us stronger, purer and more mature as a congregation.

Thank you for your unwavering faithfulness in loving God and loving one another. More than ever before, let’s have a unity that is unbreakable. We are not alone as many of our friends and churches around the world are also interceding fervently for us. God knows the way that we take; when He has tested us, we shall come forth as gold (Job 23:10).

Pastor Kong and I are humbled by the tremendous outpouring of love and support shown to us during this time. We thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray for Pastor Kong, Pastor Tan, John Lam, Sharon, Serina and Eng Han.”

(3) The Importance of Singapore Snowdens

Edward Snowden was the defence contractor who blew the whistle on America for spying big-time on her own citizens. In the case of City Harvest, a very disgruntled Roland Poon got the ball rolling with his damning letter to the press alleging fund mismanagement. He backed down in the face of a lawsuit, but the damage was done.

Former CHC members have spoken of the pressure they felt to donate while say they never saw returns even as church leaders seemed to be living the high life, but the possible backlash or even a higher power usually holds them back from reporting fishy business.

With several mega churches today preaching what’s been dubbed the “prosperity gospel”, it’s people like Roland who need to step forward to set things right if anything’s amiss.

And the new City Harvest leadership will have to toe the line, unlike their predecessors, lest another scandal erupts.
