“Call Me a Coward, But I Don’t Dare Risk My Children’s Life Giving the WP My Vote”

redwire-singapore-wp-thumbs-up
Like many of my friends, I plain hate the PAP. Whatever they do, it is never good enough, never soon enough and never fair enough. So when the Worker’s Party won a GRC at the last general election, I had high hopes that perhaps Singapore could soon have a political party that cared enough for the common man.
Sadly, the Worker’s Party talks a good game, but since the last general election they have failed to deliver on any of their promises. What makes matter worse is that instead of staying focused on championing the common man, the Worker’s Party had to embezzle money from the Town Council’s sinking fund to pay for general maintenance and repairs and is now fighting for their own political survival.
AHPETC, instead of being a beacon of hope for all Singaporeans that someone other than the PAP can provide for us, turned out to be an epic failure. Friends living in AHPETC-run areas are disgusted and frustrated at the condition of their estate. Property prices have also fallen and property agents tell me that HDB flats in opposition run estates sell for 15% less than comparable estates in PAP-run areas.
Besides all of this, there are now several reason why I would now never vote for the Worker’s Party. Firstly, they lack transparency. Public records (and by their own admission to the media), Sylvia Lim and gang never disclose things in time and they never submit reports they should be submitting. Every time they are reminded, they come up with yet another creative excuse. In short, all documents are conveniently missing or destroyed or being manually counted.
Secondly, Sylvia Lim and gang fail to deal expeditiously with problems. The AHPETC S&CC arrears issue is a prime example. This is a major concern to me as how you manage a Town Council demonstrates your competency. If you cannot even manage a few HDBs blocks, how are you going to manage a country.

And thirdly, commingling. While I am not an accountant, and I am waiting to see what the Accountant General Office (AGO) says about the management of Town Council funds, I have a sinking feeling that money from Aljunied was used to cover loses in Hougang. If this is the case, and the Worker’s Party leadership of Sylvia Lim and Low Thia Khiang is not mature enough (or brave enough) to explain to their electorate why their money was used to fund another estate, then this speaks volumes about their character.
In short, while I may not like the PAP, I am at least certain that they are people of character and that they will be able to run my country. You may call me a coward, but I am not ready to risk my, and my children’s lives, to try something that is likely to be worse. Until a viable opposition appears, I regrettably will have to stick with the PAP.

Important thing is: opposition must be better than PAP..in terms of delivering what they promise, and good steering of TC.

If WP thinks PAP has accused them of mismanagement of fund, stand up and rebutt, sue them for libel…why keep quiet?

Ya, only accounts at Opposition held constituencies are being scrutinized, what about PAP?
Whose going to check on them? IRAS? Fat hopes!
Face the real world if you are really hoping for change in our country run by the most arrogant government in the world!
Which govt in this world would dare to say “We have to pay ourselves obscene salaries so we would not be corrupt”
    Thats utter ARROGANCE!

Something is very wrong with the way WP conducts business. ” In due course ” seems to be the standard answer. If they can’t run a GRC, what’s more of Singapore. In due course, the country will go bankrupt and reduce to a third world country.

Be rationale. I will vote for the best party. Not silly loyalty. WP’s 1st few months disgust me. Spending money to change the entire GRC’s block number plates from green to orange! The money will be better used to service the residents. Please think from the view of the residents if they are to vote u!

I stayed in Aljunied GRC and I am very happy about the state of affairs here. Estate is generally clean and I even get morning greetings from town council cleaners. Plus I get to see my MP rather often. Not only during election time. Those non residents , stop spouting nonsense, please.

I also stay at former PAP estate and vote for WP. last GE. WP Mr Loh came visit us last GE till now never see him again. But the PAP have visit us for 3 time since than.
The estate conservancy worker came to swept the corridor upon complaint and on purposes spray water to my main door and water have flow into living room.
In addition, during PAP time we got free bulky removal service but WP Town Council staff told me to bring down ourselves.

During recent tender for MA, the existing MA didn’t submit and hope to extended with the exlisting price $8+ compared to PAP $5 to 6+.
Wait long long . Next GE I will vote PAP

If you people dont have anything constructive to say, then dont. Comments such as “pap dog” and “the pap has sunk to such an extent” are comments coming from singaporeans who are plainly just against the pap.

One comment mentioned about cars in singapore becoming so expensive and hdb flats as well.

Just take a look at our neighbouring cities in SEA. Bangkok, jarkarta and the likes of it. How is the traffic there? I am in my mid 20s and cant afford to own a car in singapore with my average 2.5-3k pay. Yet I drive a company vehicle and everyday I know the conditions on the roads. Erp charges of $6 sle/cte do not even deter many people. I still face very slow traffic every morning.

What about housing? Just do a little research on your own and find out the cost of OWNING apartments in hong kong or tokyo. And dare you say that singapore is not comparable to those cities?

So basically, that netizen wants opposition(s) to enter the parliament and lower the COE prices and home prices. Then sadly to say, he/she would be able to afford a car but not want to drive it out at all, esp to town or during peak hours. And more people will complain about the expressways not being wide enough, erp prices too high but doesnt solve the congestion problem etc.

For hdb prices, I too agree that there are measures that could’ve been taken (or not taken, eg allowing foreigners to buy hdb). And as much as hdb prices are shooting skyhigh, I don’t believe that it would be something that my future husband and I couldn’t afford to own, with a combined salary of 5k a month, albeit smaller and more expensive than my parents’ generation.
