The Manpower Ministry has hauled former Chief Operating Officer of bar chain Harry’s International to court over hiring indiscretions.

Parmjit Singh Kaur is accused of instructing her foreign staff to declare their fixed monthly salaries as $3100 in order to meet the minimum income requirement of S$3000 for Employment Pass applications.

The Singaporean is alleged to have known that the foreign staff would be paid less than that amount.

Kaur is facing 20 counts making false declarations of salary to the Controller of Work Passes.

This is said to have taken place from April to September 2013.

If convicted under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, she could be fined up to $20,000 and jailed for up to 2 years.

The MOM is currently investigating 95 employers for making false declarations regarding work pass applications for 241 foreign workers.

Last year, 8 franchisees of the 7-11 convenience store chain were fined for making false declarations.
