Employer Installs CCTV in Toilet to Monitor Maid’s Movements!

No, not bowel movements.

This employer took micromanagement to the extreme by installing a CCTV camera in the toilet to monitor what the family maid was doing in the shower.

Dewie says she felt something was up when she was asked why she had used her employer’s shampoo, and why she took so long to bathe.

The 27-year-old Filipino maid found it strange because her employer wasn’t at home whenever she took a shower.

Following the questioning, she paid closer attention to her bathroom surroundings and discovered that a camera had been installed to monitor her movements.

Dewie noticed that since she started work 7 months ago, her employer had installed 3 CCTV cameras at home to keep tabs on her.

Speakers were also installed, so that her employer could give her instructions at any time of the day, such as “go and boil water for the baby”, or “go and sleep”.

Dewie finally had enough and complained to TWC2 (Transient Workers Count Too).

She was repatriated after her employer discovered she was talking to the non-governmental organisation.

A survey by HOME(Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics) involving 670 maids this year showed 1 in 5 of them had surveillance cameras in her room.

Maid agencies also say they have received complaints about CCTV cameras from maids

But workers such as Dewie often choose not to report such infringements because they fear losing their jobs
