It looks like the PAP’s Murali Pillai is set to win in Bukit Batok.
A sample count indicates that he has won 61 percent of the votes, with the SDP’s Dr Chee Soon Juan trailing at 39 percent.
Tonight’s sample count result was derived from a random count of 100 ballot papers from each of the nine polling stations in Bukit Batok, and then weighted to account for the difference in the total number of votes cast at each station.
The sample count, which is meant to give a forecast of the electoral outcome, has been proven to be an accurate indicator.
In General Election 2015, the sample count for Bukit Batok SMC showed the PAP’s David Ong winning 74 percent of the vote to 26 percent for the SDP’s Sadasivam Veriyah, and 0 percent for independent candidate Samir Neji.
Ong took 73 percent in the final result, with Mr Sadasivam winning 26.4 percent and Samir Neji getting 0.6 percent of the total votes.
