Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) Chief Dr Chee Soon Juan is planning to contest in the next General Election. Dr Chee will be qualified to run, as his bankruptcy status was annulled 2 years ago. The next election is expected to take place by the year 2016.
“The PAP is taking us down the wrong path. We need to change course. The next General Elections are crucial to the future of the nation,” said Dr Chee in an interview with TRE.
“We’re already spending much time on the ground spreading our message that there is a competent, constructive and compassionate party working hard for you, one that shares your frustrations and aspirations. When we get into parliament, you, the people, will come with us.”
Dr Chee was previously made bankrupt after failing to pay damages to then Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, and Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew in defamation lawsuits. He was unable to run in the 2006 and 2011 elections due to his bankruptcy status. In 2012, his bankruptcy status was annulled, after he paid a reduced sum of $30,000 in damages.
