Marcus Lam has been in his new role as branch chairman for PAP Hougang division for 2 weeks now, and political watchers expect him to be only half as good as his precedessor Lee Hong Chuang.
Even though the 38-year-old is currently treasurer of the Singapore Wushu Dragon & Lion Dance Federation.
This does not bode well for the PAP, considering that Lee lost in Hougang SMC twice – on 2015 and 2020 – despite his wayang antics.
During his time, Lee was a close match for arguably the PAP’s biggest wayang king, Victor Lye, who has consistently lost in Aljunied GRC.
Lam is currently an assistant director of the operations and mobilisation division at NTUC.
He is also a principal industrial relations officer at the Building Construction and Timber Industries Employees’ Union.
Hougang SMC is now helmed by Workers’ Party MP Dennis Tan.
The next General Election must be called by 23 Nov 2025.
