LETTERS: Why Singaporeans Never Got to Watch Loh Kean Yew’s Historic Badminton Win?

JEAN YAP: Loh Kean Yew did Singapore proud when he became the first Singaporean to win the Badminton World Federation World Championships.

On his journey, he beat six of the current top 10 players like Anders Antonsen and Kento Momota.

Yet, Singaporeans never got watch his historic win because there was no broadcast on local TV.

Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, is expected to welcome Low when he returns home.

But where was Tong when the nation needed to come together to rally behind one of our sports stars?

Busy stitching up narratives about the Workers’ Party?

Where was Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo when Singapore’s wanted to catch our sporting talent in action and give our support in spirit since the Covid-19 pandemic has made travel a problem?

No wonder Singapore sports is in such a shambolic state.

Do we only back our sportsman after they become “winners”?
