WILLIAM GOH: While going through Facebook, I was confused when I spotted two “Thank You Mr Lee Kuan Yew” pages, and went to take a look at both. After checking, it looks to me like one of the pages was set up with aim of attacking opposition parties under the pretence of a tribute page to the late Mr Lee.
Prior to the General Election in September, the “fake” LKY tribute page published several articles interspersed with some actual Mr Lee posts which clearly were meant to discredit opposition parties. I feel that this is a very dirty and unethical way of cheating people into associating the goodness of Mr Lee with how bad the opposition is. They are two very different things.
On the other hand, there is an actual “real” Thank You LKY page which does exactly as it should, which is to spread stories about Mr Lee so that we can get to know the man better. There are no political attacks on this page, and I think that form of non-partisanship is much better than the gutter ways of the former “fake” page.
I want to bring this to your attention so that people who started this “fake” LKY page with the hidden agenda to attack the opposition will stop with their dirty tricks. There’s something wrong if you need to use the name of a dead man to tarnish the reputation of others.
Thank you William for this letter.
