This is a translation of a long rant by a Chinese national who apparently believes that Singaporeans are lambs for the slaughter:
There may not be any problems when Singaporeans compare their IQ among themselves, but once they are in China, they can easily be fooled by even our most stupid idiots.
This is not a casual statement, but is backed up with solid proof. My buddy from the travel agency told me, among tour groups from around the world, those from Singapore are the easiest to guide. It is so easy that any new guide can handle them without any problem. Why? Because Singaporeans are exceptionally stupid, you can say whatever you want, just fabricate any reasons, they will be convinced without difficulty.
For example, tour groups from Chan Brothers and CTC of Singapore go on a mostly 8-day tour to Beijing, Chengde and Tianjin, but the actual sightseeing is always less than 4 days, most of their time is spent shopping at specific locations, such as Chinese herbs at Tong Ren Tang, Pi Xiu at De Sheng Gate, herbs for foot spa at some foot reflexologists. In addition, there is shopping at jade shops, silk stores, jewellery shops, tea shops, cloisonne shops, etc. If the tourists feel that there is too much shopping, just tell them that those shops are operated by the government and their visits are compulsory, they would just accept it and have nothing more to say.
Shops at De Sheng Gate are specially meant for tourists from Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan for the sales of Pi Xiu (a legendary animal). The sales proceeds would be split equally between the shop and the tour guide who would then submit half of his share to his travel agent, then share the remaining half with the coach drivers and the Singapore tour guide. In fact, many other shops in Beijing are selling the same kind of Pi Xiu, and their prices are only about 10% or 20% of those sold at De Sheng Gate. How to reconcile the price difference? You only need to tell the Singapore tourists that De Sheng Gate is a museum, and is run by the government, that’s all. They would fork out lots of money to shop. However, those from Taiwan and Hong Kong are not as easily fooled.
Tong Ren Tang and foot reflexologists are two key locations for the shopping spree of Singapore tourists. As Tong Ren Tang is a renowned Chinese herb shop with a long history, of course tourists would not be brought to the authentic Tong Ren Tang, they would only be led to a shop in the Wang Fu Jing shopping district, downstairs is where the common herbs are sold, the tourists would be brought to a small room on the second floor where their pulse is checked under the guise of a free medical check up. No matter how many tourists are there in the group, each and every one of them shall be found to have certain health problems and need to consume lots of herbs to maintain his or her health. All you need to do is to tell those Singaporeans that this is a state-owned Tong Ren Tang, a small box of herbs can easily be sold to them at over Rmb 10,000 yuan (S$2,000).
The most profitable are the foot reflexologists. Before departing for the venue, the tour guide would declare that the travel agent will give a free foot massage to every member of the tour group at the Beijing stadium, a place specially set up for the athletes. Of course, it would be nice to have a foot massage after climbing the Great Wall. Actually it is not free at all, it is just a sales gimmick to promote herbs for the foot spa. The masseur would comment that there are various problems with the whole body of the customer who then has to buy their herbs for treatment. Each box costs Rmb 320 yuan (S$64), 10 boxes for a course. If the customer is not interested, the masseur would threaten him that he would develop serious health problems without the treatment. Do you think this would anger the customers? No, at least not Singaporeans. Singaporeans are really stupid, they have no brains to think and would succumb to the threat. Then what is the cost of such herbs for foot spa? Go to Hu Qing Yu Tang at Hangzhou, each pack is sold for Rmb 2.5 – 3.5 yuan.
There are many similar cases. Hence, Beijing tour guides for Singapore tourists would talk about shopping since day one of the tour. They would talk day and night about how efficacious the Pi Xiu are and how precious the herbs at Tong Ren Tang are. They exploit the slow reaction of Singaporeans’ minds and their inability to think independently, to draw money into their pockets. The trick of free foot massage would not work with the Taiwanese and Hong Kongers. Their reactions are too fast and they are sharp enough.
One might wonder how Singaporeans can be cheated so easily. The answer is simple. Firstly, Lee Kuan Yew meddles with everything in the lives of Singaporeans, everything is put in perfect order, hence there is no need for the people to use their brains, just follow Lee Kuan Yew’s instructions will do. Secondly, every cent that the Beijing tour guide makes is split with the Singapore tour guide who would act as the Trojan horse to help the Beijing guide make more money which he shares with him. A tour guide leading a group of 30 Singaporeans can easily be rewarded with at least S$1,000 for an 8-day tour to Beijing if he is a good Trojan horse.

This article seems to try to throw blame, and have zero solutions and very very very poor proof.
For example.

I went to Shanghai in tour group few years ago and was brought to Tong Ren Tang and true enough, they will give you a free heath talk and lead you to some free “health check” just by checking yr pulses. Bringing you to crystal shops for some free name reading etc and tell you what you should buy to avoid some unfortunate stuffs u gonna meet. But sorry to say, not all Singaporeans falls for their tricks and once you shows no interest, they too show their true colours. For ppls travelling to China, pls do open your eyes big and be vigilant.

This article truly reflects how China tourist service operators have no morals and no sincerity in serving tourists – downright shameless in trickery and dishonesty in their moral system. Singaporeans are easily fooled not because we are stupid or because our brains are numbed by a nanny-state upbringing. The root cause is because Singaporeans are brought up in a very law-abiding environment hence our defences are down when we travel to other countries where people behave unscrupulously. Singaporeans suffer in countries like China and possibly lots more. We don’t have to apologise for our disciplined way of life.

I traveled on those trips before. True enough, the tour guide brough us to every “government partially owned” shopping stores available. We respect our tour guide and expected that we were guided by honest tour guide. We were also looking forward to some shopping. So, naturally, we were excited to go to some tourist shopping stores.That doesn’t represent that Singaporean are gullible. Did we buy from every store? Nope. We only buy stuff we really wanted. I ended up buying only their silky blanket which I like it very much even until today. Did we believe everything that the sale persons told us? Nope, we chose to decline politely and stay non confrontational even though we know some of them were trying to rip us off. We did get the free foot message and was pressured by the health consultant to buy their health product. However, we stood firm on our decision not to buy any of them. The writer made it sound like all Singaporean are not smart. If you take a poll on how many Singaporean ended up buying stuff at every stores, they will be surprised that on the whole, they really didn’t fall for the hard selling tatics used by unethical sale person. They don’t really believe every word out tour guide told us. The truth is when we travel, we are respectful of others’ culture, which most Chinese from China lack. I have witnessed time and time again how unrefined, uncultured and rude China Chinese travelers are. They walk into foreign country as if they own the place while other international visitors are respectful. Chinese tourist are rude and loud. They love to talk loudly across the room even though they are standing so close to their friend. They cut the line and they don’t wait to be seated at restaurant. Even the China government have to publish a thick booklet for China travelers to read on how to behave when they travel. Doesn’t that tell you something about China Chinese? So instead of trying to label Singaporean’s intelligence, you should really take a hard look at yourself. China Chinese is ranked the worst tourist in most countries.

Simply saying, Singporeans are gracious enough to be cheated, not because of ignorance but rather we see that by spending the unnecessary money, these trickster will at least be able to feed their family. What more, since we are on holiday, we are more or less prepared to spend a certain sum of money. We are a nationalities that stay true to heart, learning to give while we earn.
Praise Singaporeans for being kind at heart, rather than some nationalities who would grab and snatch not for a living but because their character are like that. These people take and rob from the society but never give back…
if we are not gracious and harmonious people, would we have tolerated all the foreigners coming to Singapore? Their ill-behaviors? Their snubbing remarks? Their irresponsible driving habits? Their rowdiness?

1. Do the dirty jobs for us, i.e cleaning public toilets. The government knows that Singaporeans are better off with better jobs.
2. Expats. These expats help to boost Singapore’s economy.
3. China is rich? Oh yeah? Spend more money in Singapore thank you. You just transferred your riches to us in a way.

Dunno and don’t care much about what my other fellow Sgreans travel habits but true blue seasoned SG globetrotters DO NOT go on travels with paid guides, we either scout and plan out our own itinerary, get a good travel guidebook, google for travel tips or go with local trusted friends or biz partners.
As for the cheating, LOL that’s a big joke really, it goes both ways in reality, but on unequal terms. Noob tourists may get scammed for small money over there, but PRCs get ‘financially raped’ by others in the rest of the world…

I told him your skills are so good that by the pulses you can tell me that i got fatty liver and that i need to take herbs to dissolve . I told him TQVM i will revisit my doctor to do a blood enzme test to ascertain the situation then i will fly back to Beijin to buy the herbs. His face change instantly

In actual, it goes to show that mainland land Chinese are out to cheat Singaporean because most Singaporean that travelled overseas are rich and trusted their mainland Chinese. It goes to show that mainland Chinese are out to cheat people .The Singaporean normally are law abiding and they have doubts on what your guide said, but they play along. I had been to such a tour and I refused to join in such a scheme. Strong arm tactics were used but I just walked away.Singaporean did not want to make a scene. Actually we Singaporean know if the tour guide charge them more the fact we are on holiday and have fun. As we all work hard. We just having Holiday is up to the integrity of those.
We don’t calculate every cents when we on holiday our government has groom us to be generous and helpful people.

When I travel to anywhere, I would openly and loudly tell everybody around me that I am a Singaporean. Why? simply because nobody likes the other nationalities. All of us want to go to Singapore and put our money there. In Thailand, our banks not safe, but better than the lousy banks in China. But in Singapore, they control all the world’s money. They are very very rich. I think this writer is stupid and is from China. To him, $64 is a lot of money. But to Singaporean $64, they can just spend in one tap of the card “Beep” to buy a cookie, or a pancake. They have so much money they don’t care. To them, it is like 1 baht in Thailand. I love Singapore. That’s why I am saving up to buy their condo so I can be rich too. I will never buy in China. Their buildings can break and collapse. Worse than in Thailand. I heard in Beijing, the condo glass fall and kill people even new cos they use cheap ones. I heard in Shanghai the men rape the girls and never pay money or ask for discount. Shanghai men some are handsome but they are never rich. If they are rich, they are very stingy, they always want discount. Singapore men, even if not super rich, always buy presents for girls. So many PRC women now fight for us for Singapore men. Gong Li the Chinese actress aso marry Singapore rich man. Chow Yuen Fatt Hong Kong superstar, famous for being stingy Hakka, also married rich generous Singapore woman, and bought many properties. Thaksin, Yingluck they all put billions into Singapore and buy entire buildings of condo in Singapore because Singapore property always go up. Best of all, Singapore, everywhere is clean, Louis Vuitton there is cheaper than in Thailand. Singaporeans are well travelled to USA, England Japan. They are richer than Americans Japanese. In Thailand, our favorite is Singapore men. All of us want to marry Singaporean Chinese men. They are handsome tall educated speak good English.

Singaporeans are the most painfully stupid people of any developed country. There is no contest. There are mildly retarded people that operate a higher level than the average Singaporean on the street.
