Two days after Redwire ran the story about an elderly SBS bus driver who lost his pension after being sacked just a month before retirement, (30-Year SBS Driver Loses Pension after Getting Sacked Months Before Retirement), the SBS responded by rescinding the termination, and commuting it to an “early retirement” instead.
The driver, Pang Akau will also receive benefits accorded to those who retire.
According to Gary Yeo, his cousin Pang had been slated to retire in March 2016, but he was sacked in June this year after allegedly beating a red light.
Said Mr Yeo:
“1 month back, his employment by SBS transit was terminated eruptly by the management of Boon Lay Interchange – reason : not stopping during a left turn at a traffic light on red. In fact – he still turning left, only when the light turned red.”
Mr Yeo says he would like to extend his gratitude to those on social media who have given him and his cousin their support.
“Without u, SBS Transit will not response so quickly to put this charter to an end. The power of social media lives…. and strikes….”
(Ed’s Note: Glad to be of service, Gary and Akau. Good luck!)
