Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam has pledged to strengthen social safety nets, at the re-opening of parliament. It’s one of six goals that Mr Tan said the government is pursuing to build a better future for Singapore and its people.
Mr Tan said the government will aim to:
|Continue to make housing affordable and develop new housing options|
|Ensure affordability and quality of healthcare to Singaporeans|
|Improve existing CPFsavings and CPF Life annuity schemes|
|Government spending over the next decade, particularly on social programmes|
And the six goals which the government says it will pursue to improve life in Singapore:
|Strengthening safety nets|
|Enhancing retirement adequacy|
|Supporting families and communities|
|Creating a better quality life for Singaporeans|
|Creating opportunities for adults to have a fulfilling career|
|Enabling young Singaporeans to fulfil their potential.|
Mr Tan also urged Singaporeans to treat immigrants and foreigners with “graciousness, kindness and fellowship”.
He said that this spirit will enable us to progress and prosper together.
