A gruesome sight greeted the neighbour of 77-year-old Mdm Tay yesterday afternoon.
At about 2.10pm, a neighbour said he heard wailing coming from her Tampines flat.
Peeking through the window, he saw her sitting in her wheelchair in the living room, covered in blood, with a kitchen knife stuck in her throat.
Just then, her Indonesian maid Mina, rushed out of the house and frantically asked him for help.
“The maid ran over crying and begging me to help her, saying Ah Ma’s throat was cut by a knife and she tried calling Ah Ma’s family members.”
He called the police.
The neighbour said that Ah Ma lived in the 4-room flat on the 5th floor of Block 276 Tampines St 22 with her husband.
She was confined to a wheelchair due to a stroke.
A month ago, the elderly couple had just employed Minah as their maid.
When yesterday’s incident happened, Ah Ma’s husband had just left the house.
When police and paramedics arrived, Ah Ma was discovered dead from her injuries.
Police questioned the maid, and later arrested her on suspicion of murder.
