Bette Midler would perhaps best describe these RSAF recruits as the “wind beneath my wings” if she was a wheelchair-bound Ah Ma trying to get to a restaurant on the 2nd floor.
As it happens, Ah Ma and her children were trying to get to the Swatow restaurant, which is on the 2nd floor of a building at Toa Payoh Central.
However, it seems that the lift of the building chose the opportune time to break down and Ah Ma’s kids were stuck as to what they should do (because, you know, things can get quite hot and heavy lah).
The recruits carried Ah Ma up the stairs to the restaurant, wheelchair and all, and even told Ah Ma’s kids that should help be needed, they can carry Ah Ma down later after makan.
Ah Ma’s children were so impressed by the conduct of the young men that this letter was sent to the RSAF praising them for their kindness.
Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen was equally impressed.
Commending their actions, he said:
“Good that SAF soldiers are showing care and concern for our residents. Well done, men!”
When it comes to the crunch, its good to know that our Air Force boys won’t fly aeroplane.
