BCA Warns Public Not to use Prams on Escalators as Another Stroller Gets Stuck on MRT Escalator

Prams and trolleys should not be used on escalators, said the Building and Construction Authority, as yet another stroller got stuck on an escalator at Raffles Place MRT station yesterday.

The stroller got wedged in a step as it approached the upper landing platform.

The BCA says that downward pressure exerted by the stroller’s wheels caused the steps to dislodge, and this triggered a mechanism which stopped the escalator.

The child in the stroller escaped unhurt, though the escalator had to be shut down for repair.

Just last year, another pram got stuck in an escalator and dislodged its steps.
