Protest leaders Han Hui Hui and Roy Ngerng must have wondered why they even tried. The pair tried with gusto to rouse the meagre 100-strong crowd at the Return Our CPF rally today at Hong Lim Park. Their gallant attempts, however, were drowned out by “Jailhouse Rock” from the YMCA Proms @ the Park community event taking place just across Hong Lim Park. More than 4 times the number of people turned up for that event – a closed-door event meant for volunteers and their mentally handicapped and elderly charges to participate in a day of song, fun, and games.
The terse situation began to heat up midway through the protest, as MP Teo Ser Luck made a guest appearance at Proms. At least one man was spotted angrily confronting Teo, and even throwing bottles on the ground in frustration at Teo’s apparently dismissive responses. The man left on his own after his rage was spent.
Prior to the protests, Han Hui Hui had accused YMCA leaders of trying to disrupt the Return Our CPF protests by deliberately holding their event on the same day. If you missed the protest or Proms, here are some pictures from the two events.
