87-year-old Tan Ya Di was rushed to Changi General Hospital, but doctors couldn’t save his life.

Mr Tan was cycling at Marine Terrace, as was part of his usual routine, when he was hit by Bus 196.

He was pinned under the bus until paramedics arrived.

An eyewitness says Mr Tan raised up his hand as he cycled in front of the bus as a signal that he was crossing.

However, the bus driver stepped on the accelerator and ran over Mr Tan.

Mr Tan’s second son, Andre, says that his father was hale and hearty prior to the fatal incident.

He said that it’s “tough not to hate the bus driver” after what happened.

Police are investing the case and have rounded up several eyewitnesses.
