He even tried to have forced sex with her on National Day in 2005.

That was just one tale in the whole chilling encounter related by 34-year-old civil servant, Mdm Fu.

The pair wedded in 2003, but in just two years, cracks began to appear in their marriage.

Much of this has been put down to her husband’s addiction to online pornography.

Despite her opposition, Mdm Fu says her husband continued to view porn online, and even began sexually explicit chats with women on social media.

Two years after their marriage, Mdm Fu says her husband started to physically abuse her, to the extent that she applied for a Personal Protection Order against him.

She says his abusive ways caused her to suffer depression, and that affected her performance and career with the Singapore Armed Forces.

Despite the violence, Mdm Fu says she took unpaid leave for 6 months to care for him when he was diagnosed with diabetes, which affected his sperm count and deprived them of children.

It was only in 2009 that the couple filed for divorce.

On the flipside, Mdm Fu’s husband has accused her of irrational behaviour, and said he had also applied for a Personal Protection Order, only to withdraw it because his wife said it might affect her career.

The 41-year-old sales manager accused her of spending most of her time chatting online during her 6-months of unpaid leave, and barely cooked for him even 10 times.

He added that she neglected cleaning the house, such that he even had to employ a part-time maid to do the household chores!

Mr Chen also said that the reason his wife took such long unpaid leave, was because she couldn’t get along with her supervisor, and not because she wanted to take care of him.

In deciding alimony for the couple’s divorce, the court ordered that they sell their matrimonial home on the open market, and split the proceeds, with 40 percent going to Mdm Fu and 60 percent to Mr Chen.

Mr Chen will not have to pay any alimony, as the court found that Mdm Fu is financially-independent.

Mdm Fu has appealed the settlement verdict.
