Residents of Bishan St 12 were all ready for bed when they heard a loud crashing sound.
They rushed to their windows to take a look, thinking a car accident had taken place, and were shocked to find that a huge tree had collapsed, crushing an overhead bridge that linked Bishan to Toa Payoh North.
The incident happened at around 11pm last night.
The tree is situated on a slope, and residents believe it could have been uprooted due to heavy rain in recent days dislodging the soil it stands on.
NParks has sent a team to the scene to clear the tree.
