Angry that his girlfriend had ended their 3-year relationship with him and suspicious that she was seeing another man, this jealous Bangladeshi construction worker attacked her with a knife while she was taking care of her employer’s child.
The incident took place on 1 Mar last year at about 1pm.
Ahamed Suhel waited for his ex-girlfriend, Indonesian maid Nuri Samad, in the Novena vicinity, opposite a mosque.
At the time she was walking home with her employer’s child in a pram.
Suhel confronted her and questioned if she had a new boyfriend.
He then took the victim’s handphone to read her messages, but since it was password-protected, he handed the phone back to her.
While Nuri was unlocking the phone, Ahamed took out a 17cm-long knife from under his shirt and stabbed her twice in the abdomen.
The savage attack perforated her colon and stomach.
Nuri turned around and tried to run away, but Suhel then struck her on the head with the knife, causing a cut in her scalp.
Then, he threw the knife down.
At that moment, Nuri ran towards a 51-year-old man who was standing near the mosque and cried for help.
Hearing her cries, the people in the mosque came out to help her.
Suhel was detained.
Nuri survived the stabbing after an emergency operation at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Suhel has been jailed for 3½ years and sentenced to 6 strokes of the cane for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
