Reform Party chief Kenneth Jeyeratnam has chosen to give Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong a verbal kick up the ass at the time of his father, Lee Kuan Yew’s death.
In an interview with the International Business Times, he urged PM Lee to step down, and said he owed his position to his father.
This response in the International Business Times came 5 days after the death of Lee Kuan Yew, on 21 March.
“Lee Hsien Loong needs to step down. He’s been prime minister for 10 years and he owes his position to his father. Whatever people say, it’s a clear example of nepotism. There needs to be a change. Singapore is not the Lee Family and we need to get rid of the climate of fear.”
Jeyeratnam also attacked the manner in which Temasek Holdings, Singapore’s government company, is managed under the stewardship of Lee’s wife, Ho Ching.
“Temasek and GIC should be transparent to parliament and we should try to privatise them and list them on the stock market, with shares handed out to citizens so that everyone has a share of the national wealth.”
Some believe it could be retaliation for what PM Lee’s letter of condolence to Mr Jeyeratnam, after the death of his father, J B Jeyeratnam.
The late Mr J B Jeyeratnam had been a strong critic of the policies of Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his party, the PAP.
Mr J B Jeyeratnam, a former MP for Anson constituency, had previously been jailed and bankrupted by the ruling party.
He died in 2008.

In it, Mr Lee accused Mr J B Jeyeratnam of seeking by all menas to “demolish the PAP”, and that his actions didn’t help to “build up a constructive opposition”.
