At Serangoon MRT Station, commuters couldn’t even board the escalator to go down to the train platform.
That’s how packed the rush hour crowd was this morning (3 Mar) as commuters hurried to get to work, only to be let down by yet another train disruption.
Some commuters described the horror of being stranded in darkness in train carriages, as lights went off for some ten minutes.
This was how one commuter, Sally Goh, described her experience on Facebook:
“It’s started around 7.30 am when I’m at the harbourfront mrt circle line.
After the train moved for abt 1 min, it jam brake & nex sec, burning smell ….then partial lightings goes off….
The system too announced tat …after abt 10 mins lightings is back but train not moving till 1 officer came tru the tunnel reached our Train & drive manually to nex stop Telok Blangah.
No direction sign or any sign tat say train not in Svs which I guess things happened toooo fas & the co not able to react fas….so passengers hv to make ur own way out ….”
The train disruption is estimated to have lasted for about at least an hour, though SMRT says it was fixed within 30 minutes.
The transport provider said that it activated free bus bridging services, until the fault was fixed at 8.24am.
