This lorry was caught beating a red light yesterday morning at about 7am, and the effects of that lapse were devastating.
The incident took place at the cross junction of Serangoon Rd and Towner Rd.
The lorry driver who’s believed to be an Indian national was suspected to be drunk at the time.
The traffic lights at the Serangoon Rd junction had already turned red for some time when the lorry sped past it (the Green Man signalling that it’s clear for pedestrians to cross was already lit).
It crashed into a TransCab taxi that was turning into Serangoon Rd from Towner Rd, then veered into an open-air car park in Boon Keng Rd and smashed into 4 cars parked there.
One pedestrian was severely injured – a woman who happened to be standing along the curb at Serangoon Rd.
The TransCab taxi was sent crashing into her after it was struck by the lorry.
She was severely injured, but still conscious when sent to hospital by paramedics.
The taxi driver escaped with minor injuries.
Police have arrested the driver of the lorry and are investigating the incident.
