Rear Admiral Chew Men Leong has resigned as Chief Executive Officer of the Land Transport Authority.
This comes in the wake of the fiasco involving SMRT train defects which required 27 new trains to be sent to China so they could be fixed by manufacturer CSR Sifang.
Chew said has resigned to pursue “personal career development” in the private sector.
Speculation abounds that he’s gunning for a position in the Singapore Technologies fold.
The Transport Ministry says it will announce Chew’s successor at a later date.
Chew, a former Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy, resigned less than 2 years after he was appointed LTA chief.
That makes his stint as LTA chief the shortest on record since the stat board was formed in 1995.
Former LTA chief Ho Meng Kit left in 2005 shortly after the 2004 Nicoll Highway collapse.
He was also barely 2 years into the job.
