Did the hardworking Summon Aunties (and Uncles) from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) get it wrong this time?
Our official parking enforcers were at Yio Chu Kang last weekend issuing parking summons to motorists who had parked their vehicles illegally… while attending a funeral wake in a private estate.
Witnesses who wrote in to Redwire said some had no choice but to park indiscriminately, and were issued summons for ‘parking along a single continuous white line’, which is a traffic offence in Singapore.
But, they argued that this was a sensitive event, and the motorists were not obstructing traffic.
Those who attended the funeral wake slammed the LTA for being high-handed in its approach, and said that if there was any obstruction to traffic, the traffic wardens could have handled the situation more delicately and humanely.
Redwire recommends that motorists print out this coupon for use in the event of any ’emergency parking’ needs. It’s pending LTA’s endorsement, but it’s better than nothing.
