Repeat offenders for illegal parking will be given higher fines. Singapore’s Land Transport Authority says this new fine regimes will begin from 2015. Motorists who receive their 2nd Notice of Traffic Offence within 12 months will have to pay a higher tier of fines.
An example: A motorist who is caught parking a light vehicle along unbroken double yellow lines will be fined S$110 instead of S$70 if this is the second notice he has received within 12 months.
The LTA said that between 2011 and 2014, about half of all illegal parking offences were committed by repeat offenders. It said that the aim of this latest fine revision was to reduce this bumber of repeat offenders.
On a separate note, the LTA will also install CCTV cameras at 40 more locations to deter illegal parking.
