S$15 for a packet of economic rice like this?
That’s what one diner had to fork out at the Cookhouse by Koufu kopitiam at Velocity @ Novena Square.
Francis Lim said that on Sunday (16 Apr), he partonised the economic rice stall and asked about the food prices before making his order.
“I ordered fish and chicken thigh and asked for their prices prior to ordering. I was informed that the fish cost $3 and the chicken thigh cost $3.5, and I agreed to these prices. And added baikut vege with rice which may be about $5/6 more to my calculation.”
However, he got a shock when he saw the bill.
“I was charged a total of $15, despite only receiving $35 in change from the $50 I had handed over. I was surprised by this and asked for a receipt, but the elderly man running the stall refused to provide one and even scolded me for not asking for one earlier.”
The angry patron has accused the Koufu stall of “dishonest practices” and “trying to overcharge customers”.
Koufu has since stated that the cost of the meal was a result “miscalculation”.
The company added that the a refund has been arranged, and that the stall tenant is willing to offer a complimentary meal as an apology.
