Some 40 people gathered at Clarke Quay this afternoon, baying for their money to be returned outside the office of recruitment agency TCC Group.
They were allegedly cheated by a man claiming they can become Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) volunteers for a fee.
According to a member of the crowd, the man, known as a Mr Gumaad, claimed to be a staff of recruitment agency TCC Group.
He supposedly told them that for a S$35 registration fee, he could give them access to the SEA Games as volunteers.
They were told that washing uniforms and clothes for the athletes would be amongst their tasks for the SEA Games.
TCC Group says it has checked and found no staff by the name of Mr Gumat working for the company.
SEA Games volunteers can access events at the Games for free.
Standard adult tickets for these events such as gymnastics and badminton costs S$20 a ticket, while other sports such as basketball and billiards cost S$10.
