Seven students at an unnamed all-boys’ school took upskirt pictures and videos of their teachers with their handphones on multiple occasions and shared them with over 20 of their schoolmates.

And it appears that parents of students at the school are content that the school kept the sordid incident under wraps.

The school didn’t report the matter to the police when the upskirt incidents came to light on 5 Oct.

Rather, it conducted internal investigations, found out the identity of the boys, and punished them.

Seven of the students were caned and one was expelled.

It was the second offence for the boy who was expelled.

An unidentified person made a police report about the matter but parents, it seems, are happy that the school didn’t go to the cops.

One said that it was just an act of mischief and the matter shouldn’t be blown out of proportion.

Said Mdm Tan:

“Boys will be boys. Female teachers in a boys’ school should know the risks. Making it a police matter won’t undo what the students did. They should wish a bright future for the kids.”

Another parent, Mdm Lim said it was important for the school to weigh the pros and cons of making a police report, and in this case it’s better to keep the upskirt issue quiet.

“The school has already conducted its own investigation and meted out punishment. What more do you want? Arrest the boys? Its better they just let things blow over.”

When incidents like the SMRT quietly shipping off defective trains back to the manufacturer for repair came to light, the public was baying for blood.

Many called for greater transparency and accountability from the public transport operator.

However, in this instance, it appears that some are prepared to cut the kids some slack.

Said parent Mr Chew:

“This is different. This is not the gahmen we’re talking about.”
